Has anyone found an Alternative way to GET RID OF Migraine Headaches?
I have now tried over 20 medications that have not worked and I am currently taking a mixture of Topamax and Depakote. There is no telling when and if I will be able to get off the meds and I would like to have children one day down the road. That may not be possible if I cannot find an alternative to these medications. And my neurologist does not even have a second thought about not being on medication. She passes them out like candy…. Has anyone had success with any alternative forms of headaches relief??? I’m willing to explore new territory!
Pat answers:
It depends on what is causing the headaches.
I think a lot of migraines stem from sinus problems. Try flushing your sinuses with a lukewarm saline rinse. Also, try tiger balm under your eyes and nose while standing in a steamy shower. Open up those sinuses!
You might want to check your diet and activities. Smoking, alcohol, and caffeine withdrawel is notorious for setting off migraines.
I would seriously recommend keeping a migraine diary. Record every time you have a migraine. Also record such things as the pollen count, barometric pressure and what you ate that day. I know it sounds tedious… But it is an excellent way to start to track down alternative causes.
Good luck!

I am ALWAYS tired, and can’t find out what the reason for it is. Any ideas?
I am 21 years old, I am constantly exhausted and am not sure why that is? I do take medicine: Paxil for depression and Depakote for a mood stabalizer and migraine relief. I also take little less than half of an eight mg. suboxone (this was for me to get off certain pain killers) I also take birth control and Xyzal for allergies. I hate that i have to take so much crap but it’s the only thing that helps, except the fact that litterally 3 hours upon waking up I am nodding off…just sooo tired, and i work at a daycare with young children…infants to toddlers and i get so sleepy during work. I have to use caffine…which hardly work anymore….I stay tired throughout most the day, even after i take a nap, i am still tired….I can also take naps at 7 pm till like 9 pm and still have a good sleep. I feel something is wrong…. Any ideas? Please i need to know what it is like to actually feel awake!!!!
Pat answers:
Try taking a B12 supplement.
It is important to take the sub-lingual (under the tongue kind) because if you are not absorbing b12 naturally from food than you wont from just swallowing the pill either. You place it under your tongue and let it dissolve. Try doing a search on B12 deficiency and see if you meet any of the other symptoms that can go along with it. I couldn’t believe that I had a vitamin deficiency that made me so exhausted..but I did! I couldn’t make it though a single day without falling asleep on the job. I am all better now that I take supplements. Hope it is the answer for you as well, because it is a cheap and easy fix to an awful problem.

I have had pressure in my head for 10 months, and my doctor has no idea why – what do I do?
I have had 2 MRI’s that have found nothing, and tried 3 different migraine medications that have done absoluely nothing. I have gotten some relief from accupuncture, but it is not covered by my insurance and is expensive! The pressure is there from the moment I wake up and never ever goes away and it is driving me crazy. I have two small children to take care of. What do I do? How do I live this way? My doctor insists there is nothing wrong with me and keeps shoving drugs at me. I know I should be grateful that they have not found cancer or something serious – but I just don’t know how to keep smiling and pretending I’m ok anymore. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I’d be grateful for any leads to follow…anything at all. (I even had all my wisdom teeth pulled just because someone suggested it might help! It didn’t! Oh, well.)

Perhaps you should try a doctor of chiropractic, where exactly is the pressure at in your head, can you point to it, is it a constant pressure or achy in nature? Chiropractors have had great success in treating not only back neck or muscular pains but also headaches and other conditions. You see, in the back of your upper neck region, there are areas where trigger points lie and those areas can become tight and in spasm causing headaches and possible pressures in your head. A doctor of chiropractic can help you by locating areas in the spine that are “out of place” and muscles that are in spasms. If you have already exhausted every possible route, you should seek help else where rather than seeing medical doctors and taking a laundry list of medications that are probably doing more harm than good. A Chiropractor can also help you with lifestyle changes and dietary changes, nutritional counseling, and if needed a referal to another specialist.
