If you are afflicted by migraine headaches, you know how painful they can be and how they can prevent you from being able to function and live your life normally. Some of the symptoms of migraines include: aches, vomiting, nausea, pain, and sensitivity to sound and light. It is estimated that at least 10 to 15% of all Americans are afflicted by this illness. Migraines are a serious dehabilitating condition for some. Relief may be found through the use of prescription medicines, but these also often have severe side effects. These medicines can wear off quickly and also may be addictive. For these reasons, many are searching for alternatives to prescription drugs and hoping to find a migraine cure with no side effects.
The simplest plan for preventing all types of illnesses, including migraines, is to take care of your body and keep it in a healthy state. You may be amazed what a few simple things can do to reduce or even eliminate your migraines.
1. Drink lots of water. Dehydration may well be the single biggest factor in the cause of migraines. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water each day and avoid caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, and other things that will quickly dehydrate your body.
2. Eliminate Stress. Allowing yourself to be in a stressful state will put your body in a state for potential illness. This may be a main factor in your migraines, or it may be one of many. In either situation, you can be sure that stress is a contributor. Do all you can to simplify your life and lower your stress levels.
3. Avoid Chemicals as much as possible. Chemicals are foreign substances to our bodies, even though they are found in many foods. Some of the most common chemicals to avoid are MSG, Aspartame, and phenylkentoneurics. Avoiding processed foods will defiantly help you with this, as they are extremely high in artificial ingredients and harmful chemicals.
4. Exercise regularly. Regular exercise makes anyone more relaxed, happy, calm, and may be the most natural migraine cure that exists. If you have health conditions that prevent you from moderate exercise, at least do yoga or stretch.
5. Consume natural vitamins, nutrients, and herbs that are known to be effective in preventing migraines. Modern research has shown that there is a relationship between deficiencies in these substances and migraine headaches. Magnesium seems to play an important role in keeping the body from experiencing headaches. Vitamin B2, or Riboflavin, is also shown to significantly decrease migraine headaches. As far as herbs, Feverfew and Butterbur have extremely high reviews by those who have tried these remedies to prevent migraines. Butterbur has been used by Native Americans for years to reduce headaches.
The cause of migraine headaches is not entirely known, although some factors are recognized which play into it. Migraine headaches also affect different people in different ways. Remedies, both natural and man-made will also affect people differently. You must experiment with the available remedies and find the path that will best alleviate your pain and improve your daily living by reducing your migraine headaches.
