For some of us, our migraines are just a way of life. We of course, would love to discover a treatment for our migraines but many of us are told that all we can do is live with it and attempt to manage them.
For the most part, this is correct. But managing our migraines does not necessarily mean that we just have to live with them without doing anything about it. I have been a migraine sufferer for almost 20 years I have discovered a few simple things that I do to improve my migraine management that I wish to share.
Do not skip Breakfast. This one turned out to be more important than I could have known. I went from two migraines in a week to only one. That might not sound like much but I was able to cut my migraines in half with that one technique. In addition, try to drink at least two glasses of water in the morning, they do not have to be large glasses and they do not have to be consumed concurrently. Try one as soon as you get up in the morning and one just before you leave for work.
Do not Take Painkillers. It sounds ironic, but painkillers are a known headache trigger. My personal preference is a cup of coffee and a few deep breathes. Migraines are caused by a sudden dilation of the arteries in the brain. Caffeine works to constrict the arteries again which will begin the process of easing your pain.
Take a Nap if possible. I understand that if you are at work this will be difficult. If you are at home or if you work from home, and you have a migraine, drink your cup of coffee and then have a nap. The relaxation will help you.
